R. Kent Henslee, Of Counsel
R. Kent Henslee is one of the most preeminent attorneys in Northeast Alabama. Kent grew up in Attalla, Alabama and graduated from Etowah High School in 1953. After high school, Kent attended the University of Alabama and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Accounting. He later entered the University of Alabama School of Law where he received a Juris Doctorate degree in 1960.
Upon graduation, Kent returned to Etowah County, Alabama to practice law and establish a law firm. Kent established the law firm of Henslee & Bradley, LLC. While the firm name changed over the years, the one constant that remained was Kent Henslee. In over fifty years of practice, Kent has provided exemplary legal representation and served as a tireless advocate on behalf of the citizens and business interests of Etowah county and the surrounding counties. Along the way, Kent has been a mentor to countless attorneys who seek his advice and input. The best way to describe Kent is the voice of reason. He is held in high regard by his peers and clients. Kents legal expertise and his finely tuned business and negotiating skills have deftly propelled him through an illustrious career in the legal profession.
Kent is known for his ability to handle complex issues such as tax, estate planning, business organization and formation, contractual/business disputes, employment matters, education law and health care law. Kent has served as a knowledgeable and highly sought lecturer on these topics.
Over the years, Kent has also demonstrated that he is a leader in the community and various civic organizations. He has served on the boards of Alabama Power Company, Regions Bank (as Chairman), Gadsden-Etowah Chamber of Commerce, Gadsden-Etowah County Industrial Development Authority, Baptist Health Services, Inc., Coosa Valley YMCA, Gadsden Airport Authority, Board of Governance for the American Hospital Association, Alabama Red Elephant Club and the Alabama Law Institute. In 2013-14, Kent served as the Chairman of the Limited Liability Company committee for the Alabama Law Institute. In this capacity, Kent served as the guiding force in the development of the state laws regarding limited liability companies. Kent also serves as the legal counsel for the Gadsden City Board of Education and previously served as the President of the Alabama Association of School Boards.
Kent serves as legal counsel for several banks and credit unions, including, but not limited to, Family Savings Federal Credit Union, WinSouth Credit Union and Alabama Teacher’s Credit Union. Kent also has substantial experience in handling union negotiations and grievance proceedings.
Kent has also been the recipient of the Bobby Austin Community Improvement Award. This award is presented by the Gadsden-Etowah Chamber of Commerce to an individual, who by his/her involvement in various community organizations, has made a positive impact on the Gadsden and Etowah County area.
In 2015, Kent joined the law firm of Knowles & Sullivan, LLC in the capacity “Of Counsel”. Kent is a member of MeadowBrook Baptist Church where he has served in numerous capacities, including, but not limited to, elder and deacon. Kent has been married to Mary Henslee for 54 years. They have three children (Susan, John and Stephen) and four grandchildren.
